DPZ Capital, Halkett Place
You could be forgiven, as a client walking into DPZ Capital, for thinking that you were in the comfortable lobby of a boutique hotel – and there is a good reason for that.
When company owner Darren Zaman realised that he needed to move his rapidly expanding independent investment business into a new office, he was specific about the look he wanted to create.
It was a look that he, his wife Harriet, Axis Mason and Style Office and Style Shopfitting worked extremely hard to create without losing sight of the need to stick to their budget – and to a very tight time scale.
DPZ Capital and their new acquisition, DPZ Synergy, are now both happily based at Unity Chambers, 28 Halkett Place.
Darren and Harriet’s aim for the new offices was a contemporary design that was different to the traditional financial business look. They wanted a professional and unique environment that would reassure their clients and still be interesting in design and layout for the staff.
Harriet, who has considerable flair for interior design, worked closely with Mark Coppins of Axis Mason Interiors throughout the design process to create what is surely one of most sophisticated financial services offices in Jersey.
Style Office and their sister company Style Shopfitting provided the fitout and furnishings for Darren when he first set up his company DPZ Capital in their Victorian office suite in Queen Street, St Helier in 2007 and he was keen to get them back on board for the move to Unity Chambers.
Consulting with Style Office Sales Manager Sally Harbut, the DPZ team selected ranges of furniture that would suit the space and provide the best tools for the staff. ‘We have been working with Sally Harbut, Style Office Sales Manager, since the late 1990s for various companies. Her assistance is always fantastic. Sally does everything possible to be helpful and thorough,’ said Darren.
Steelcase Frameone benching was selected for the main workstations in the open plan office area. It is a range with stylish simplicity that suited the refined mood of the space and, on the practical side, provided excellent cable management and above-desk visual privacy for each workplace. The desks were finished with white compact laminate tops and pearl champagne frames.
The team at DPZ were already committed fans of the highly ergonomic Leap task chair from Steelcase so more were added to the space for new staff members.
Storage was provided in the form of Universal Storage and Pedestal units in the open plan space. These were colour co-ordinated by Harriet to ensure that they complemented both the desking and interior finishes. A central filing room was built by Style Shopfitting and fitted out with Ecospace static shelving by Style Office.
The executive offices, boardroom and meeting rooms all utilised the Arkitek range from Actiu, a Spanish manufacturer renowned for producing sustainable and highly designed furniture.
In the boardroom, a stunning black glass Arkitek boardroom table with chrome frame and angled legs is coupled with Cream Ikara conference chairs on chrome four star bases. A Block credenza in Wengue and Black glass completes the layout.
The executive desk in Darren’s office is both a workstation and an instant meeting table with additional desk space and personal storage units all suited to match the Wengue finish coupled again with Ikara chairs. All the meeting rooms have a mix of White and Wengue tables to suit the spaces with either Ikara or Kados conference chairs and smaller Block credenza units.
In the reception area, a glass Actiu reception desk is combined with stylish Trannon reception seating in Taupe leather and soft grey fabric and Surf glass coffee tables to create a welcoming and relaxing environment for clients.
‘All the teams from Style Shopfitting and Style Office work hard to provide the products and finishes required to achieve the standout office environment that DPZ Capital desired,’ said Sally. ‘We thoroughly enjoyed working with Darren and Harriet sourcing and proposing furniture that would suit both the stunning interior and the company’s ways of working. The furniture they chose not only complements the space but will also provide an environment in which the team has all the tools to be productive and efficient,’ she said.
